The team got qualified for the Asian cup in 2004 though they were unable to get a solitary point against Saudi Arabia in group. Nicknamed as Green Men, the team head coach is Yazguly Hojageldiyev. Charyar Mukhadov took the maximum scores of 13 goals. Ashgabat Olympic Stadium is the home stadium of the team. Ranked at 133rd place by FIFA, this team is ranked at 129th place as per the Elo rank.
This team did not enter for the World Cup from 1930 to 1994 and didn’t qualify for the same from 1998 to 2010. With regard to the Asian cup, the team did not enter from 1956 to 1992 as they were a part of USSR at that time. In 1996 and 2000, the team did not qualify and in 2004, they managed to reach round one of the Asian Cup. In 2007, they did not enter and in 2011, they were not qualified for the tournament.
From 1951 to 1990, the Turkmenistan team did not enter and was a part of USSR. In 1994 and 1998 the team successfully reached quarter finals. With AFC Challenge Cup, the team achieved group stage in 2008 and was runner up in 2010.

Till date, this team has also achieved honors, awards and titles. In 1993, they were the runner up in the ECO cup and in 1997, they were the champions in the President’s Cup. in 2002, they were the runner up in the President cup and in 2008, they achieved championship title in HCM City cup held in Vietnam.
