=== History ===

The Yemen national football team is the national team of Yemen which is entirely controlled by the Yemen Football Association. Prior to 1990, the nation was divided into two parts, North Yemen and South Yemen, due to which two national teams were there. Once the nation got united, North Yemen and South Yemen got amalgamated and became the Yemen national football team.

However, this team especially the North Yemen national football team never participated in the World Cup or in the Asian Cup. The only appearance was by the South Yemen team that participated in the Asian Cup in 1976. Asian Football Confederation (Asia) is the Confederation of this team. This team plays their home matches at their home ground, Althawra Sports City Stadium. With YEM being the FIFA code, the team is ranked in 109 place as per the FIFA ranking.

=== Coach of the team ===

The head coach of this team is Srećko Juričić. He is a former Croatian football player and also the current manager of the Yemen national football team. During his managerial career, he led Al-Ahli Dubai and NK Rijeka teams. In an international level, he had coached many teams like United Arab Emirates national football team, Oman national football team, the Bahrain national football team, along with the Yemen national football team. He even coached the Bahrain Riffa Club.

Their highest FIFA ranking was in the month of August in 1993 when the team was ranked in 90th place. Their lowest FIFA ranking was in 2000 in the month of July when they were placed in 163rd position. The Yemen national football team was ranked in 134 place as per Elo ranking.

=== South Yemen national football team prior to 1990 ===

The South Yemen national football team was the national team of South Yemen from 1965 to 1989. Though the team took part in the Asian Cup finals in 1976, they lost by 0-8 to Iran and 0-1 to Iraq. This team finished to survive when the nation got united with North Yemen to form modern country of Yemen.
