Budapest Honved FC is a Hungarian football club based in Budapest. They currently feature in the Hungarian first division and have been graced by players such as Ferenc Puskas and Sandor Kocsis.

Budapest Honved were established on August 10,1908 as Kispest Athletic Club by a teacher named Dr. Baliant Varga. However, the club was officially founded on August 3,1909 when the members finally agreed on a club constitution. In the first three decades of the club’s existence, it was termed as a village club. They won the Hungarian Cup in 1926.

Budapest Honved started to garner success from 1949 onwards when legends Ferenc Puskas and Jozsef Bozsik both started to play for them. That year they were taken over by the Hungarian Ministry od Defence and they became the Hungarian Army team. Then when the village of Kispet was absorbed into District XIX of Budapest, the club was renamed as Budapest Honved SE.

Honved won the Hungarian League again in 1980 for the first time in 25 years. During the 1980s and early 1990s, they won the league seven more times. They did the League and Cup double in 1985 and 1989.

Budapest Honved won the Hungarian League in 1949-1950,1950,1952,1954 and 1955. In 1956 they featured in the European Cup. But then a revolution occurred in Hungary due to which top players left the club. This left the club in tatters but they still won the Mitropa Cup in 1959 and the Hungarian Cup in 1964.

In 1991 the club were renamed Kispest Honved FC. But in 2003 they were relegated but bounced back immediately. However, in October 2004 they went into liquidition and thanks to the Hungarian League’s intervention a new club, Budapest Honved FC, was formed and replaced Kispet in the first division.

Budapest Honved play their home matches at the Bozsik Stadion that can accomodate 10,000 spectators.
