Based out of Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay, Centro Atletcio Fenix are a football team that pays in the lower divisions of the league. One of the more popular teams in the lower divisions, the club was founded in 1916 and named after the mythical bird, the Phoenix. The played in the top division for quite a number of years and even reached the Copa Libertadores for two years in a row, however they have been relegated since and are still looking to find their way back up. The team plays its home games at the Estadio Parque Capurro, a 10,000 capacity arena in Montevideo.
Although Atletico Fenix have never won the top division, they have 6 Segunda division titles to their name as well as a third division title from their 1991 campaign. In 2003 & 2004, they reached the first round of the Copa Libertadores, their only and best performances in the competition. Players like Edgardo Adinolfi, Alejandro Lago, Henry Gimenez and Victor Lopez have helped the team attain their popular status at the levels they are present in.
