Sportivo Luqueno are a Paraguayan football team based out of the city of Luque. The club was formed after three Luque teams, Marte Atletico, General Aquino and Vencedor decided to combine and form one single, stronger unit. Within three years, the team was involved in the fight for the title in the first division. Their 25,000 seat stadium is the third largest in the country. Almost the entire city, including the stadium, is decorated in the club’s colours, displaying the maniac-like effect of the club on the city.

Sportivo Luqueno have won the First Division title twice, once in 1951 and then in 1953. Their 4 Second Division titles came in 1924, 1956, 1964 and 1968. In their three appearances in the Copa Libertadores, the team has never made it past the first round however the Copa CONMEBOL saw them reach the quarter-finals in 1993. The team has had many fantastic players like Jose Luis Chilavert, Raul Vicente Amarilla and Aurelio Gonzalez.
