A professional sports club from Quito, Ecuador, Club Deportivo El Nacional is famous for its football team. Belonging to the Ecuadorian military, only Ecuadorian players are allowed in the team. Nicknamed Puros Criollos, or All Home-growns and El Equipo Militar, or The Military Team, the team colors are red, dark blue and light blue, which also signify the three branches of Ecuadorian military.
Tying with Barcelona Sporting Club in terms of number of Ecuadorian championship wins, El Nacional has 13 wins to its credit. With main rivals being Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito, Sociedad Deportivo Quito and Sociedad Deportiva Aucas, the team has won the Primera A championship 13 times in 1967, 1973, 1976-78, 1982-84, 1986, 1992, 1996 and 2005-06. They have also won the Primera B championship once in 1979.
