Livorno went into a decline after that and continued to slip down the ladder of Italian football. But they gradually started to crop up the standings and at the end of the 2003-2004 season gained promotion to Serie A. They went down at the end of the 2007-2008 campaign but returned to the Italian top flight just a year later.

Livorno play their home matches at the Stadio Armando Picchi that can accommodate 19,238 spectators. They bear the nicknames “Amaranto” and “Labronici”.
