This famous Dutch pro footballer is known for his exemplary defense and excellent passing skills as well as free kicks. Franciscus “Frank” de Boer was born on May 15, 197 the younger twin brother of Ronald de Boer who was born just 10 minutes ahead of him. He started his career with Ajax as a left back before moving to center back. He won the UEFA Cup and Champions league while with Ajax.
He and his brother later moved on to BC Barcelona although he never won as many titles as he did when he was in Ajax. It was also during this time that Frank de Boer tested positive for the banned substance nandrolone, which led to a suspension which he successfully appealed.
He has also played for the Netherlands during the 1994 and 1998 World Cup, Euro 1992, 2000 and 2004 but missed playing for the Netherlands during Euro 1996 due to an injury. He was captain of the national team until 2004, where he ended his career after he was replaced during a quarterfinal game against Sweden due to an injury. He was out of the team’s subsequent match with Portugal which the team lost with a score of 1-2.
He played for Galatasaray in 2003 before moving to play for the Rangers in 2004. He along with his brother later left the Rangers in 2004 and moved to Al-Rayyan. He announced his retirement in 2006 and since then has assumed a coaching position in Ajax. He is currently the assistant coach to the Netherlands national football team with Phillip Cocu.
