Wilmer Aguirre
Wilmer Alexander Aguirre Vazquez is a professional footballer from Peru who plays as a striker. A student of the esteemed youth academy at Alianza Lima, Aguirre turned professional in 2001, when he was called up to the senior team. Between 2001 and 2006, Aguirre was used as a substitute, coming on towards the end of games, bringing his speed into the game.
He played 156 games for Lima until 2006, scoring 40 goals in that period. He moved to France in 2006, joining FC Metz for a couple of seasons. After some initial promise, Aguirre’s form kept diminishing as he managed just 4 goals from 29 games in the French first division.
During the 2008 season, Aguirre was sent back to Alianza Lima on loan, with an option to complete the transfer at the end of the season. At the beginning of 2009, Alianza Lima confirmed his transfer after Aguirre scored 18 goals in 40 games for the team. Through 2009, Aguirre played 29 games and scored 8 goals on his way to becoming one of the top strikers within the team.
At the international level, Aguirre was called up for 3 games during his loan period with Alianza Lima.
