A football defender from Brazil, Luiz Alberto da Silva Oliveira, began playing football in the youth division of Club de Regatas do Flamengo, in 1995, and soon graduated up the ranks and turned pro with the same club in 1997. He remained with the club till 1999, after which he moved to Saint-Etienne in 2000, and remained with the club for one season. After over 15 appearances with the club, Alberto moved to Real Sociedad in 2001, where after one season he was loaned out to Sport club Internacional for the 2002 season, and then to Atletico-MG for the next season.

In 2004, Alberto returned to Real Sociedad, but after over 25 appearances and no luck with goals, he transferred to Santos in 2005. During the one season Alberto spent with Santos, he scored five times in the over 45 appearances he made with the first team. It was in 2007 that Alberto moved to his current club, Fluminense FC, and so far he has made over 70 appearances during which he has scored 5 times so far.

Alberto has been picked for the Brazilian national team between 1999 and 2000, during which time he made two appearances with the team, against New Zealand and Costa Rica. Some of Alberto's top honors include the 1996 Gold Cup, the Rio de Janeiro State League title three times, the Copa dos Campeoes Mundiais in 1997, the 1999 Mercosur Cup as well as the Guanabara Cup the same year, the Sao Paulo State league title in 2006 and the 2007 Brazilian Cup.
