An Argentine footballer, Raul Fernando Saavedra began playing football professionally in 2000, with Atletico Tucuman, a second division club in the Argentine football league. He remained with the club for two years, after which Saavedra joined Quilmes, which soon went on to win a promotion into the top division.
But Saavedra switched to San Lorenzo in 2005, where he remained for only one season, before returning to Quilmes. The defender soon jumped ship when Quilmes faced with a relegation in the following season itself. Saavedra moved to Olimpo, which once again suffered the same fate and was relegated. Finally in 2008, Saavedra joined his current club, San Martin de Tucuman.
