Born in Argentina, Roberto Sosa is a striker who has played at the topmost leagues across the world. Coming through the youth development program at Gimnasia La Plata, Roberto Sosa debuted for the first team in 1995. From 1995 through till 1998, Sosa played 80-odd matches for Gimnasia, scoring 37 goals. He moved to Italy, to Udinese Calcio, where he had a wonderful four
Seasons with the Italian team, playing about 104 matches and scoring 31 goals.

In 2002, after the expiration of his contract, Sosa came back to Argentina, although this time 'round, he chose Boca Juniors as the team he wished to play for. He spent one season with the team and struggled to get into the side and after just 7 games, left them to join his first club, Gimnasia.

In 2003, Sosa began his second shot in the Italian league. This time, with Ascoli for 18 games, scoring 4 goals and then with Messina, playing 21 games for 5 goals. However, the highlight of his tenure in Italy was four year period, between 2004-08, that Sosa spent at Napoli. With over 116 games and almost 30 goals for the team, Sosa left his mark on the league before returning to Argentina and his original club, Gimnasia for the 2008 season.
