Gakpo quickly impressed PSV boss Mark van Bommel but it was the 2019-20 where he made his breakthrough in the Eredivisie, with seven goals.
He netted 12 goals in the 2021-22 Eredivisie season, scoring 21 in all competitions including the winner in the 2-1 KNVB Cup final win over Ajax. He won the Dutch Footballer of the Year award.
In the 2022-23 season, he twice won the Eredivisie Player of the Month to start the new campaign and was regularly featured in the Team of the Month, thrusting him into the spotlight with speculation linking him with a move.
In December 2022, English giants Liverpool swooped to sign him on a five-and-a-half-year deal for between 40 to 50 million euros.
International Career
Gakpo played for the Dutch national teams at under-age level, before making his senior debut at Euro 2020. He played at the 2022 World Cup and scored in three straight games.
