Matthew Bates

Matthew David Bates is a young English football player who currently features for the English Premier League club Middlesbrough. He is a defender.

Matthew Bates is a graduate of the Middlesbrough youth system and made his debut for the first team in 2004. He has however yet to cement himself into the regular starting line-up and played on loan for Darlington in 2005, Ipswich Town in 2006 and Norwich City in 2008.

Matthew Bates has been drafted back into the Middlesbrough first team for the 2008-2009 season.
