Jonathan Christian David was born on January 14, 2000, in New York City, United States. The Canadian forward stands 1.78 m (5 ft 10 in) tall. Although born in Brooklyn, he moved to Haiti as an infant before immigrating to Ottawa, Canada, at the age of six.

Raised in the Franco-Ontarian community, he holds citizenship for Canada, the United States, Haiti, and France. He shares close friendships with former Lille teammates Angel Gomes and Timothy Weah.

Career

David began his professional journey in Belgium with Gent, where he quickly made a name for himself by finishing as the league's joint-top scorer in the 2019–20 season. His performances earned him a record-breaking €30 million transfer to Lille in 2020, making him the most expensive Canadian player ever.

In France, he helped Lille win the Ligue 1 title in his debut season and left the club in 2025 as their third all-time leading goalscorer. Following his success in Ligue 1, he joined Italian giants Juventus.

Internationally, David has been a transformative figure for Canada. Since his debut in 2018, he has become the country's all-time top goalscorer. His consistent excellence has been recognized with multiple awards, including the CONCACAF Men's Player of the Year in 2025 and three Canada Soccer Men's Player of the Year titles (2019, 2024, 2025).
