John Utaka started his career at Enugu Rangers in Nigeria in 1997 and after playing for Ismaily SC and then Al-Sadd Sports Club, he landed at FC Lens in 2002.

In the summer of 2005 he was signed by Stade Rennais and after two impressive seasons was signed by Portsmouth, for whom he featured in 29 English Premier League matches and scored 5 goals.

John Utaka made his international debut for Nigeria in 2002 and has played 3 matches so far for his nation.
