Martin Ødegaard was born on December 17, 1998, in Drammen, Norway. The Norwegian midfielder stands 178 cm tall. He is the son of former footballer Hans Erik Ødegaard, who played a crucial role in his development by co-founding a local football section and coaching his son's team.

Growing up in a Christian family, Ødegaard has expressed that faith plays an important role in his life. As a boy, he idolized Lionel Messi and later developed a close friendship with compatriot Erling Haaland while playing for the U-21 National Team.

In his personal life, Ødegaard is in a relationship with Norwegian dancer Helene Spilling. The couple married in November 2024, holding a formal ceremony in June 2025. They welcomed their first child, a son, on December 1, 2024. In addition to Norwegian, he speaks English, Spanish, and some Dutch.

Career

Ødegaard's career began at Strømsgodset, where he broke records as the youngest goalscorer in the Tippeligaen at age 15. This drew the attention of the world's biggest clubs, leading to a high-profile transfer to Real Madrid in 2015. While in Spain, he became Real Madrid's youngest-ever debutant but spent several seasons on loan to gain experience.

His loan spells at Heerenveen, Vitesse, and Real Sociedad were transformative. At Real Sociedad, he was instrumental in their 2019–20 Copa del Rey victory. He initially joined Arsenal on loan in 2021 before signing permanently later that year.
