Cedric Carrasso is a professional football player from France who plays as a goalkeeper. Carrasso began his playing career at the youth academy at Avignon Football 84, in 1998. After just one season, he was picked up by Olympique de Marseille, who loved what they saw of him in a local game. The fact is, Carrasso was a part of the Marseille youth set-up before that too, but the one year at Avignon really changed the way the youngster played under greater responsibility at a smaller club.
Carrasso was moved into the first team in 2001, signing a professional contract with Marseille. However, before he could make his debut, Marseille sent the young goalkeeper out on loan to Crystal Palace, in England, for a single year loan move. In 2001-02, Carrasso only played one game before returning to Marseille and making his debut for the French giants in a 2-nil win over HSC Montpellier.
He continued to play on and off for the first team, spending most of his time helping the first goalkeepers train and spending a lot more time playing for the reserves. In 2004-05, the search for regular playing time also resulted in a move out to En Avant de Guingamp, where he played 25 games throughout the season.
He finally left Marseille with almost 60 caps to his name and headed for Toulouse FC, in 2008-09, where he became their first choice goalkeeper. Carrasso helped Toulouse become the best defensive team in the country, conceding the least number of goals of all teams, only 27, throughout the season. This performance caught the eye of FC Girondins de Bordeaux, who brought in Carrasso as their first choice goalkeeper in 2009. This move also coincided with his call-up to the French national team, and although Carrasso remains on the bench, he has made his debut for the national team.
At Bordeaux, things are different as Carrasso has made that starting position his own. He has made over 80 appearances in the league and his consistent performances as the first choice goalkeeper have led to a contract extension until 2015.
