Carlos Henrique
A professional football player from Brazil, Carlos Henrique dos Santos Souza plays as a defender in the centre of defence. Carlos grew up in the football-rich city of Rio de Janeiro and was picked up by the Flamengo youth academy at a young age. He broke into the first team in 2003, at the age of 20, and spent three seasons with the club.
After a relatively slow start, Henrique began showing his ability on the pitch and was, soon, a regular member of the first team. He ended his Flamengo career in 2005, having played over 40-times in the league and scoring a goal as well. France and FC Girondins de Bordeaux came calling as Henrique moved to Europe and got his first taste of French football.
He was part of the side that won the 2007 Coupe de Ligue title and the 2008-09 Ligue 1 title in France. Despite those wins, Henrique has always been a fringe player at Bordeaux, making over 110 appearances in about 7 years of football. He has missed out on 2010-11 due to injury but has largely notched up double-figure appearances in all other seasons so far. He has made only six appearances as a substitute, in that time.
