Fernando Amorabieta Mardaras, popularly known as Amorebieta, is a Venezuela international footballer who currently features for the Spanish club Athletic Bilbao. He plays as a central defender.

Amorebieta made his professional debut in club football for Basque side Athletic Bilbao in 2005 after developing through the club’s youth academy. Although born in Venezuela, both his parents are from the Basque country due to which he qualified to play for Bilbao.

He has gone on to feature in more than 200 La Liga matches and is now rated as one of the best centre-backs in Spain.

Amorebieta represented Spain at the Under-19 levels, but decided to play for Venezuela at senior level. He made his international debut against Argentina in a friendly international on September 2, 2011.
