Jan Vertonghen is a Belgium international football player who currently features for the Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur. He plays as a defender and is rated as one of the best centre-backs in England.
Vertonghen commenced his professional club football career at Dutch giants Ajax and was on their books between 2006 and 2012. He played on loan for RKS Waalwijk in the 2006-07 campaign and on his return to the Amsterdam ArenA, he became a regular for them.
Vertonghen proved himself to be a valuable player for Ajax as the years progressed, winning the KNVB Cup in 2010 and the Eredivisie in 2011 and 2012. He was also adjudged as the Eredivisie Footballer of the Year in 2012 and the Ajax Player of the Year that same year.

In the summer of 2012 Tottenham came calling and signed Vertonghen from Ajax, for whom he made a total of 155 league appearances, scoring 23 goals in the process.
Vertonghen made his international debut for Belgium against Portugal in June 2007 and has made close to 50 appearances for his country so far.
