A fantastic advocate of attacking football, Carlos Alberto Gomes de Jesus is a professional football player from Brazil who plays as a midfielder. A youth academy product of Fluminense, Carlos made his first team debut in 2002-03, the same year that Fluminense won the Campeonato Carioca title. He was a fantastic prospect and a first team regular at the age of 18, winning 43 caps and scoring five goals in two incredible seasons.
He moved to FC Porto, in 2003, when Jose Mourinho decided that Carlos would be a part of the team’s future. Mourinho was correct as Porto went on to win the 2004 league title, the Portuguese Cup as well as the UEFA Champions League title. Carlos Alberto scored the first of the three goals in the finals, against AS Monaco.
As Mourinho left for Chelsea, Carlos Alberto started losing favour at the club and after 22 games, 2 goals and a treble-winning season to his name, Carlos moved back to Brazil and signed up with Corinthians. Over the next two seasons, he would play 47 times for the Corinthians, scoring 10 goals m and helping the team win the 2005 Brazilian Serie A title.
For a small part of 2007, Carlos Alberto was sent out to Fluminense, on loan, and immediately the club went on to win the Copa do Brasil title.
That was enough for Werder Bremen to be convinced and Carlos Alberto was on his way to Germany. Despite trying desperately to recreate his Porto form, Carlos remained on the sidelines and only played twice for Werder Bremen in his first season at the club. In 2008, he was sent out on loan to Sao Paulo and then, later in the year, to Botafogo. Although Carlos didn’t play any games for Sao Paulo, the Botafogo move got him 23 games and six goals.
In 2009-10, Carlos was still in Brazil despite being contractually obligated to play for Werder Bremen. Down in Vasco da Gama, on another loan move, Carlos scored nine goals in 26 games and was impressive enough for the club to sign him on permanently. This was also a result of the fact that Carlos Alberto was extremely influential in helping the team win the 2009 Serie B title in Brazil. Carlos, himself, was named to the Carioca Team of the Year.
After signing for Vasco, Carlos suddenly saw a dip in form and Vasco were forced to send him out on loan to help him find his groove again. In2011, Gremio would be Carlos’ first destination before moving to Esporte Clube Bahia for the second part of the season. Having won five caps for the Brazilian senior national team, from 2003 to 2005, Carlos played 12 games for Gremio, scoring once, and has already played 15 games for Bahia.
