Federico Marchetti> is an Italian football player, who plays as a goalkeeper for Cagliari, a Serie A club. Born in 1983 in Bassano del Grappa in Italy, Federico made his professional debut on loan basis with Pro Vercelli. Initially, this natural heir to Gianluigi Buffon started his football career as a striker.
During this time, he was playing for Torino team, with one appearance from 2002 to 2005. For Pro Vercelli, he made 34 appearances from 2002-2003. Other teams for which he played on loan basis include Crotone (2003), Treviso (2004), Pro Vercelli again in 2005 and Cagliari in 2008-2009 with 25 appearances. From 2005 to 2009, Federico played for AlbinoLeffe team and made 45 appearances. On co-ownership basis, he played for one season, 2005-06 and made 8 appearances.
It was in 2009, that Marchetti got a chance to prove his talent when he received his first call-up to the Italian national team, Marcello Lippi, in a friendly match held against Northern island. As a starter, he began to show excellent skills and played the whole match, keeping a clean sheet in 3-0 victory for the azzurri.

Surprisingly, Marchetti made his World Cup debut in South Africa, when he replaced Gianluigi Buffon, who got injured at half time, in Group F clash against Paraguay team. In next two matches, Marchetti made four goals out of six shots on goal.
