Inter Milan has publicly declared that they have managed to sign Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic. The centre back will join the Italian club in the summer transfer window.
Vidic, 32, said that he was ready to leave Old Trafford at the end of his current contract. He also said that he was sure to leave the country as he couldn’t see himself playing for another English Premier League club.
The Serbia defender was one of the top centre backs in his time and was sought after by a host of clubs from all around the world. Monaco, Juventus and Galatasaray also wanted to capture his services, but has he decided to move to the San Siro.
Erick Thohir the president of Inter Milan mentioned on the club’s official website, “Nemanja Vidic is a world-class player. I am extremely happy to have completed this deal to bring him to Milan. He is one of the world’s best defenders and his international pedigree, qualities and charisma will be a major asset to the team and will also help bring through our younger players.”
Vidic left Spartak Moscow and signed for Manchester United in 2006. In his time as a player at United he won virtually every major trophy there is in the game. He leaves the club with a Champions League medal (2008), five Premier League medals and three League Cup medals.
His agent said that he is really excited and eager to play in Italy for one of the premier clubs.
Vidic issued a statement on the Manchester United website earlier in the year, which read “It’s the last year of my contract and I have had eight wonderful years here. My time at this great club will always rank as the best years of my career.”
David Moyes will have his work cut out and will have to look for a replacement for him as soon as the transfer window opens.
