In an action packed match, both Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur took away only one point each in a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge late on Wednesday night.
Many were hoping that this encounter would clear the picture as to the top four spots in the Barclays English Premier League, however with the draw, the places are still up for grabs, though Chelsea is looking in a strong position to retain their third spot.
The home team started the match strongly and their fluid movements led to the first goal of the match in the 10th minute, when Brazilian Oscar headed in the ball from close range from an Eden Hazard corner.
However, Spurs were not to be outdone. They showed composure and got their equalizer in the 26th minute with singular brilliance from their out of sorts striker Emmanual Adebayor, who received the ball in his own half, and dribbled with it to the Chelsea half, and scored an immaculate stunning goal in Cech’s top right corner.
With Spurs right back in the match, it became an end-to-end encounter, with both teams attacking and counter-attacking in equal measures. However, Chelsea got another breakthrough in the 40th minute, when Fernando Torres received the ball and skilfully laid it off to Ramires who toed it beyond the reach of goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, making the score 2-1 at half time.
Both teams started the second half in the same way the first one ended.
The breathless showdown finally led to a Spurs goal in the 80th minute, when a superb flick by Adebayor released Gylfi Sigurdsson who took the ball down and shot it past the hands of Petr Cech. The score remained 2-2, and Chelsea were left to rue the many missed opportunities in the match.
With this match, Chelsea remain on third spot in the table, Tottenham Hotspur still in the fifth spot, 3 points behind Chelsea and 2 points behind fourth-placed Arsenal.
