Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has indicated that he will spend during the January transfer window as his side faces a month of fixture congestion.
The Gunners drew 2-2 with Swansea City in the FA Cup on Sunday, with the replay to be yet another fixture in an already busy month for Wenger’s side.
Many Arsenal fans have called for Wenger, who hasn’t lifted a trophy with the Gunners for seven years, to splash out during the transfer window in order to bolster the club’s hopes of finally winning some silverware and he indicated he may make some additions.
“Let’s first keep the players we have and maybe add one or two. We lost [Marouane] Chamakh and [Johan] Djourou now, so there’s some room,” Wenger said when pressed on how to handle the fixture congestion.
He added: “Today (against Swansea) we had four players at home, and I didn’t bring on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Francis Coquelin or Tomas Rosicky.
“Abou Diaby is coming back and if we find one or two on the transfer market, then why not.”
Wenger was also unhappy his side hadn’t won a penalty when Aaron Ramsey tumbled under pressure from Dwight Tiendalli.
“It was a penalty and the referee saw it,” Wenger said. “You know why he didn’t give it? Because he thought the guy had not done it on purpose, [which] I think as well.
“It was accidental but he [Ramsey] didn’t trip himself. He was caught clearly by the leg of the Swansea player. I don’t know who it was. He had a hesitation, the referee, and in the end he didn’t give it.”
