Di Matteo Talks Down Title Hopes

Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has talked down his side’s title hopes claiming there’s a long way to go still despite their impressive 4-2 win away to Tottenham on Saturday.

Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has talked down his side’s title hopes claiming there’s a long way to go still despite their impressive 4-2 win away to Tottenham on Saturday.

The Blues came from behind to defeat Spurs, with Juan Mata playing a key role, as they made it 22 points from eight games.

The Blues have also won away to Arsenal this season in a sign of their growing stature with new men Eden Hazard and Oscar making a difference.

However, Di Matteo refused to get carried away with the European champions’ brilliant start to the season.

“I think I would say it is too early to say that. There are 30 games still to play,” he said.

“It makes us a team that is strong and makes our start even better, but with 30 more games I still think that you have to wait until the Christmas period.”

On his side’s style of play, the Italian added: “Ultimately we want to win games, we want to win in the way we think we can win games with the players we have.

“We don’t go out and just say ‘let’s play good football and lose’. Our philosophy is to play in a certain way because we believe with the players we have that is the way to win games.”
