Another huge weekend of football rolls around, with huge games from all over Europe including the Super Cup in Monaco and a blockbuster in England on Sunday night.
Sports Pundit’s Game of the Weekend Liverpool v Arsenal English Premier League, Sunday 2.30pm (CET)
The Reds and Gunners meet on Sunday afternoon’s game from England, with plenty on the line for both clubs who have both failed to win in the league so far this season. Liverpool had a thrilling 2-2 draw with Manchester City last Sunday but it might have been a win had it not been for Martin Skrtel’s late error. Arsenal have had two goalless draws and may need some late transfer activity to boost their attacking line with Olivier Giroud misfiring so far.
Chelsea v Atletico Madrid Uefa Super Cup, Friday, 8.45pm (CET)
The European champions Chelsea take on Europa League winners Atletico Madrid in Friday night’s Super Cup at the Stade Louis II in Monaco. The Blues have started the Premier League season brightly with nine points from three games, while the Mattress Makers are fresh from hammering Athletic Bilbao 4-0 on Monday.
Bayern Munich v Stuttgart German Bundesliga, Sunday 5.30pm (CET)
The German title favourites started the new term in fine style, romping past newly promoted Greuther Furth 3-0 last weekend, and next up is a challenge against Stuttgart. Bruno Labbadia’s side begun the campaign with a disappointing 1-0 home loss to Wolfsburg. The big story will be Bayern as they attempt to overcome last term’s three second-place finishes.
Inter Milan v AS Roma Italian Serie A, Sunday 8.45pm (CET)
The Nerazzurri started the 2012-13 season in perfect fashion last weekend with a 3-0 victory at Pescara, while it wasn’t so good for Roma who needed a late Nicolas Lopez strike to draw 2-2 with Catania. Both sides fell short of a title challenge last term and are looking to improve, with Inter looking the more likely but this game will reveal more.
Barcelona v Valencia Spanish La Liga, Sunday 9.30pm (CET)
The Catalans play host Los Che on Sunday evening, with Valencia already having taken points off champions Real Madrid this season. Roberto Soldado netted twice in last weekend’s thrilling 3-3 draw with Deportivo Coruna and looms as a danger man, while Barcelona are off to a flyer with Lionel Messi beginning the campaign with four goals already.
