The 33-year-old player still has a year left on his contract with Barcelona but has already expressed his wish to leave. Now, Munich has reached a favorable agreement with Barcelona. The deal, however, is dependent on whether Lewandowski will agree to the terms of the contract and if he can pass a medical.
“It’s good to have clarity for all parties,” said Bayern president Herbert Hainer.
“We have come to a verbal agreement with Barcelona Robert is an incredible player and he won everything with us. We are incredibly grateful to him.”
Lewandowski had joined Barcelona back in 2014. Since that time, he had played in 374 games, scoring 344 points, which makes him their top scorer of all time, behind Gerd Muller.
Alongside the release of Lewandowski, Bayern announced that they had extended Serge Gnabry’s contract through to 2026.
Also, last Friday, the football club signed Brazilian player Raphinha from Leeds. The deal was worth up to 55 million pounds. They had also earlier signed Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie earlier this month.
