Gameweek 29 looms as a big point-scoring opportunity with six sides on doubles, including powerful clubs Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham.

Those three are joined by Everton, Newcastle and Brighton on the double, although note of those only the Gunners and Spurs are playing in the shortened gameweek 30.

Previous week lessons

Did last weekend mark the return of the striker? Danny Ings (20), Ivan Toney (17), Teemu Pukki (15) and Harry Kane (13) all scored large, albeit some aided by doubles, but it was a welcome boost on the front line which may impact strategy moving forward.

Aston Villa full-back Matty Cash top scored for the gameweek with 29 points and he’s now climbed up to be the highest scoring defender who doesn’t play for top two Liverpool or Manchester City. He cannot continue to be ignored.

New Options

We need to focus on those on the doubles, keeping in mind that only Arsenal and Tottenham do not have byes in the following gameweek, so there’s a natural lean to them.

Top of the Spurs’ list is a re-born Harry Kane who has three double-figure returns from the past four gameweeks, with five goals among them. Tottenham play Manchester United and Brighton during their double.

Kane’s teammate Son Heung-Min is always of interest, but low-owned defender Matt Doherty could be a differential option who has scored 32 points across the past two gameweeks, with a goal, three assists, two clean sheets and five bonus points.

Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka is the most traded-in player this gameweek, fresh from two double-digit scores in the past three gameweeks. The Gunners face Leicester City and Liverpool on their double. Teammate Alexandre Lacazette is worth consideration too.

Others to ponder bringing in are Newcastle’s Ryan Fraser, Everton’s Anthony Gordon and Liverpool’s Sadio Mane.

Who to captain?

Mohamed Salah jumps off the page whenever he’s on a double, with the Reds taking on Brighton and Arsenal, with both games on the road. Salah has a league-high 10 away goals this season, so don’t be afraid of that.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is the next best pick for Liverpool, while Kane could be strongly considered given his recent form surge.

Injuries

Jarrod Bowen is out after picking up a knock against West Ham United, while there’s doubt over Joao Cancelo who missed Manchester City’s routine midweek Champions League game due to illness.

Allan Saint-Maximin is also a doubt with illness, along with Chelsea full-back Cesar Azpilicueta who went off at half-time in midweek, which may impact those around him, although Reece James is out with a new injury having only just returned.

Cristiano Ronaldo is set to return for Manchester United and Roberto Firmino is back in contention for Liverpool which may impact their forward options.
