The Norwegian left back was signed by Roma in the summer but has struggled to settle into life in the Italian Serie A. He was a huge hit at Premier League giants Liverpool but he has been unable to stamp his authority in Italy so far and has lost his palce in the starting XI for Luciano Spalletti’s side.

There have been transfer rumours in the last few days suggesting that Riise could be signed by sttruggling Premier League club Newcastle United after Geordie boss boss Joe Kinnear admitted that he was interested in signing the Norwegian international in January.

But speaking to the Norwegian website fvn.no, Riise said that he is happy at Roma and wants to continue playing for them. He said:

“I like challenges like this one, and I’m sure we will come out of this bad period, which cannot be considered a real crisis.”
