David Moyes’ West Ham United defeated third-placed Leicester City 3-2 to move back into fourth spot after Chelsea and Liverpool had moved back ahead earlier in the weekend.
The Hammers raced to a three-goal lead after a first-half Jesse Lingard double and a 48th minute strike from Jarrod Bowen.
The Foxes ensured a tense finale with in-form Kelechi Iheanacho pulling two goals back but the Hammers held on, to move within one point of Leicester, while holding a one-point buffer on Chelsea.
“We were 3-0 up against Arsenal and 3-0 up against Wolves and 3-0 up against Leicester and they’re incredible results, but they don’t sound that incredible when it goes 3-3, 3-2, 3-2,” Moyes said.
“I’ve got to try and put an end to that. I cant allow that to happen and we’ve got to be better.”
West Ham’s pursuit of Champions League football would be remarkable and Moyes added: “Weve got games coming up later this season where we might think we should win these games and were expected to win them and theyll be more pressure.
“Today, we were playing against a team above us in the league and weve gone a point behind Leicester. Thats big, because Leicester are a really good team and for 60 minutes we did really well against them.”
Elsewhere, Tottenham led 1-0 against Manchester United thanks to Son-Heung Min’s first-half goal but the Red Devils hit back to win 3-1.
The result solidifies United’s grip on second spot, moving seven points clear of Leicester, but it leaves Spurs down in seventh, six points behind West Ham.
Spurs boss Jose Mourinho said: “We lost against a very good team, but I dont think we deserved it. They had a very strong reaction in the second half, but after 1-1 we had big chances for 2-1, after 2-1, we had a huge chance that I saw the ball inside (the goal) but it wasnt inside, of course, it hit the post.”
