Kasper Schmeichel to Manchester United doesn’t make sense.

The 33-year-old’s dad, Peter, is the greatest goalkeeper to play for the Red Devils but that doesn’t mean his son will be able to live up to his legacy.

Like Father

Kasper is currently with Leicester City, where’s he won the Premier League and played in the Champions League, as well as representing Denmark 53 times.

Ordinarily, this would probably be a good deal. The Sun have reported that Manchester United are keen to take advantage of Kasper Schmeichel having just one year left on his contract with the Foxes.

That would all make sense, if it weren’t for Dean Henderson. The on-loan Sheffield United stopper has just completed his debut season in the Premier League and looks ready to step into David de Gea’s shoes.

Like Son

Henderson has looked confident and is sure of his place in the top flight. He’s got ambition to be United’s no.1, but don’t mistake that for compliance. This is a man with ambitions to be in the England squad, and the ability to hold his own at the very top level.

If the way to reaching his goals is with another side, there’s absolutely no reason why he wouldn’t see the Red Devils sniffing around another Premier League stopper and decide his future is brighter elsewhere.

There’ll be no shortage of suitors lining up to take the 23-year-old. For a start, Sheffield would bite fingers off to get him back between the sticks for another campaign - and his homegrown status is another attractive aspect of the player.

To swap Henderson’s future - a rapidly improving top level player - for Schmeichel, a proven but older player without the future ahead of him that Henderson has, doesn’t really make any sense.

They would be swapping their short-term aim for longer term stability. Henderson could be the new De Gea, while Schmeichel will not be the new Schmeichel.
