Captain Steven Taylor was talking ahead of this weekend’s fixture against the A-League bottom dwellers, who the Nix are expected to beat fairly easily.
However, the defender doesn’t see it like that. “I think you need to earn the right to play and the respect to them,” he said.
Good Form
Wellington are two games unbeaten and haven’t conceded a goal in 180 minutes, but that could all change if the Kiwis fail to keep their head down and respect the opponents.
Despite the Mariners coming off a heavy 6-2 defeat to Western United, Taylor still feels that they could hurt the Nix.
“They’ve come off the back of a heavy defeat and they’ll be hurt and you never know how that’s going to turn out. It could be a good thing or it could be a bad thing. They always give us a hard game, it’ll never be an easy game against these.”
Former Mate
Central Coast have Gianni Stensness pulling the strings in midfield. Stensness is a player Taylor knows well, having come through the system at the Phoenix. Hes a player the Nix will have to watch out for, insisted the skipper.
“If you look at (their) players, especially Gianni, who used to be here last year. He’s been outstanding and he’s been one of their main players this season.
“So far, he’s been their best player and they do have players who’ll hurt you given the time and space. They do have players who’ll create chances but unfortunately for them they haven’t taken them.”
Attacking Talent
Wellington aren’t great at taking chances of their own, but they are one of the top sides in the league and have attackers that can hurt any side. David Ball, Gary Hooper, Ulises Davilla.
These are guys who can take apart any side in the A-League and they should do the same on Sunday.
