Gianluigi Buffon, ex-goalkeeper of Italy, has agreed to return to Juventus, signing a contract for one year. This came after he spent a season with Paris Saint-Germain.
The 41-year old will be playing second to Wojciech Szczesny, the main goal keeper. Buffon spent a couple of seasons with the Turin club, and was able to win nine Series A titles, and played in the three Champions League finals.
Juventus warmly welcomed back the player, stating “Welcome home, Gigi!”
The further recounted Buffon’s exit from Juventus, “It was 19 May 2018. That was the day when there were tears in everyone’s eyes: when Gigi said goodbye to Juventus, its fans and vice versa. It was the bidding of a farewell to someone who was more than just a captain, but a legend and a symbol of the club.
“Probably each of us hoped, and in the end, knew that the yarn that united us for so many years was not destined to break. And that was the case.”
A veteran goalkeeper, Gianluigi Buffon is the most-capped player in Italy. He boasts of having 176 appearances, and won the World Cup in 2006.
Although playing second this time around, Buffon still is one whom fans look forward to, especially with his comeback appearances.
