textWojciech Szczesny is a Poland international football player who currently features for the English and European giants Arsenal. He plays as a goalkeeper and is rated as one of the best young custodians in Europe.
Szczesny developed at the youth academy of Agrykola Warsaw and Legia Warsaw before moving to England to join Arsenal. He played at the north London club’s youth set-up for the next three years before being promoted to the first team by manager Arsene Wenger at the start of the 2009-10 season.
Szczesny made his debut for Arsenal on September 22, 2009 when he featured against West Bromwich Albion in the League Cup. He was farmed out on loan to Brentford in November initially on a one-month deal but it was extended until the end of the 2009-10 season.
Szczesny was drafted back into the Arsenal team for the 2010-11 campaign and signed a new long-term contract in November 2010. Soon he started to establish himself as a very reliable goalkeeper and earned Wenger’s faith to remain as a first-team regular between the posts, and is now the number one custodian for the Gunners.
Szczesny made his international debut for Poland against Canada on November 18, 2009 in a friendly match. He was part of the Polish squad that played at Euro 2012 and has featured in over 15 matches for his country so far in his career.
