Richard Childress Racing Enterprises, LLC has been doing business as the Richard Childress Racing team in NASCAR. The team has used Chevrolets that are driver by Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer and Jeff Burton in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The team also rides in the NASCAR Nationwide Series with 2 cars.

Owned and run by Richard Childress, a businessman, the team has always had great legends driving their cars. The likes of Dale Earnhardt, Ricky Rudd and Neil Bonnett have stepped in behind the wheel at RCR. Since it’s inception in 1972, the team has always fielded at least one car in the series which makes it a record for the longest active team streak in the history of the sport.

In their early years, RCR fielded its own truck team and Mike Skinner was their driver of choice for the first two years. The truck programme was moved up to the NASCAR Busch Series and the car became the #2 Busch car.

The team has been involved in its fair share of controversies as would any big team. In 2007, Harvick’s Daytona 500 winning car was the cause of some unpleasantness from NASCAR fuel supplier, Sunoco. The car carried Shell logos which was in violation of the ban of fuel logos enforced by NASCAR. Although the logos still remain, they have just been shrunk down to become less noticeable.

The team’s primary sponsors remain Lenox Industrial Tools and AstraZeneca’s Prilosec OTC. Caterpillar will be another major company to sponsor the car in the 2009 season.
