Alex de Angelis
Alex de Angelis was born in 1984, in San Marino. Like others in his field, he too started in MiniBikes, but quickly moved up the chain.
He started off in the 125cc class in 1999 but he didn't get a complete season to race in. His full season debut came in 2000 and his results showed some signs of improvements when he finished at sixth place on two separate occasions. He stayed in the category till 2003 and although he never won any races, he did claim six podium finishes and a second place finish in 2003, his best season ever. He progressed to the 250cc category in 2004.
In 2004, he scored two podium finishes in his very first season in the new league; he notched up two podium finishes and ended up fifth overall in the standings. Alex had a much better year in terms of podium finishes in 2005 although he did end the season in 7th place. He ended up on the podium 4 times through the 2005 season.
In 2006, Alex really pulled out the heavy artillery. He took to the podium on a mammoth 14 occasions and even had his maiden 250cc victory when he grabbed the final race of the season in Valencia. He truly displayed his true potential at the category and finished 3rd in the championship race.
Things didn't change much in 2007, for Alex. He ended another season in third place although he didn't win any races this year and had just 8 podium finishes. He ended the season with 235 points and his performances were strong enough to warrant a place in the MotoGP class.
At the MotoGP level, Alex will be riding for Gresini Honda and will be looking to continue his wonderful form. Although he will be up against the biggest names in the business, he will look to make some impact in his first season.
