Shane Carwin, also known as “The Engineer” is an American professional mixed martial arts fighter who is presently fighting under the heavyweight division, training at the Grudge Training Center. He started his professional MMA career back in 2005.

Shane was born Shane Bannister Carwin on January 4, 1975 in Greeley, Colorado. Growing up, he was always fond of contact sports like football and wrestling. During his college years, he even became a two-time NCAA II All-American in Football and NCAA II Heavyweight National Champion and a three-time Academic All-America. He has a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Environmental Technology and juggles being a professional MMA fighter and being a full-time engineer.

His debut fight was at the WEC 17 – Halloween Fury winning via submission beating Carlton Jones. He had 7 consecutive wins prior to his debut fight in the UFC 84 – Ill Will where he defeated Christian Wellisch via KO on May 2008. He remained undefeated up until May 2010 reigning against Neil Wain, Gabriel Gonzaga and Frank Mir from 2008 to 2010. However, his first defeat was during his fights against Brock Lesnar at the UFC 116 due to submission via an arm triangle choke. His latest fight was at the UFC 131 – Dos Santos vs. Carwin where he suffered his second lost in his MMA career from Junior dos Santos via unanimous decision on Jun 2011.
