Jan Blachowicz is a mixed martial artist from Poland. He has been a professional Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter since 2007. He has competed for Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki (KSW) and was once a KSW Light Heavyweight Champion.

At present, Blachowicz fights in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). As of May 2021, he is ranked by UFC as one of their top 10 fighters.

Player Bio and Personal Life

Blachowicz was born Jan Maciej Blachowicz on February 24, 1983. His town of birth was Cieszyn, Poland. He currently resides in Warsaw. He stands 6 feet 2 inches tall or 188 centimeters. He has a reach of 198 cm or 78 inches and his listed weight is 205 pounds or 198 cm. He fights in the Light Heavyweight Division.

Blachowicz started showing interest in martial arts and he started training in Judo when he was 9 years old.

He is friends with Tomasz Drwal. He has trained at the Throwdown Training Centre, the Octagon Rybnik, Pawel Nastula’s, and Alliance MMA. He has also trained with fellow fighters Joey Beltran and Dominic Cruz.

Career with the KSW and Knee Surgery

His first bout in the KSW was at KSW 9 when he defeated Martin Zawada. He went on to fight Antoni Chmielewski. Other fighters he faced while he was fighting in the KSW include Christian M’Pumbu and Maro Perak.

He would move to San Diego in 2008 to train at the Throwdown Training Center. He was scheduled for a couple of fights but had to cancel because of knee injuries. He had to undergo knee reconstruction and return to Poland.

Recovery and the UFC

His first fight after knee surgery was with Julio Brutus. On the same night, he fought Wojciech Orlowski. Other players he faced before joining the UFC include Nikolai Onikienko, Daniel Tabera, and Raneau Theirry Sokoudjou. The win against Sokoudjou gave Blachowicz the KSW Light Heavyweight Championship.

In 2014, he signed with the UFC. His first bout was against Ilir Latifi. He won that fight. Other fighters he would face off against include Jimi Manuwa, Anthony Johnson, Corey Anderson, Igor Pokrajac, and more.

Eventually, Blachowicz faced off against Dominick Reyes to battle it out for the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship. This was held in September 2020. He won the title and was also granted a Performance of the Night Award.

He defended the title against challenger Israel Adesanya in March 2021. He was supposed to fight off against Glover Teixeira in September 2021 but the bout was rescheduled for the end of October.
