Dominick Cruz, nicknamed ‘The Dominator’, is a professional mixed martial arts fighter from San Diego, California in the United States of America. In December 2022, he was ranked by the Ultimate Fighting Championship as their Number 7 bantamweight fighter. He also used to be a UFC Bantamweight Champion twice.

Dominick Cruz was born on March 9, 1985, in San Diego, California in the United States. He stands 173 cm tall and his reach is as long as his height. His weight was last listed at 61 kg and in addition to the bantamweight division, he has also fought in the featherweight and lightweight divisions.

He is a part of the Alliance MMA team. He is of Mexican and American descent and he started wrestling when he was in seventh grade. Before he became a full-time MMA fighter, he worked at Lowe’s and he was planning on studying to be a firefighter.

Career

Cruz turned pro in January 2005. His first bout was for Rage in the Cage and it was against Eddie Castro. He won that fight and he followed it with a streak of eight more wins. He started fighting in Total Combat in July 2006.

He lost for the first time in March 2007. It was for World Extreme Cagefighting and against Urijah Faber. He would fight Faber again a number of years later but this time in the Ultimate Fighting Championships.

Cruz started fighting in the UFC in July 2011. His first opponent was Faber. He won that fight. That fight was billed as a rematch between the two. He would go up against Faber a third time in June 2016 and Cruz would still win that fight.

He had his first loss in the UFC in December 2016. It was against Cody Garbrandt. He took some time off after that fight and did not return to the UFC until May 2020 when he lost to Henry Cejudo. In March 2021, he won against Casey Kenney. Cruz followed this with a win against Pedro Munhoz.

In August 2022, he lost to Marlon Vera. That was his most recent fight as of January 2023 and he is not yet scheduled for any new fights.
