After a rebranding phase, the club was called Bofors IK from 1978 until 2011, before adopting its current name. BIK Karlskoga has been a steady presence in Sweden's second-tier leagues, having played in HockeyAllsvenskan and its predecessors since 1997. Remarkably, they are the only club to compete in every season of the current HockeyAllsvenskan format.
