Victor Hedman is a Swedish defenseman on the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Hedman was drafted by Tampa Bay 2nd overall in 2009. He spent the previous four seasons with Modo Hockey of the Swedish Elitserien, where he earned a reputation as the top European prospect. At 6’6, 227 lbs, Hedman is a strong physical presence, and has made a reputation as a very solid defensive player. At different points leading up to the 2009 draft, it was unclear whether Hedman or John Tavares would be selected first overall, since Hedman was viewed to be a more reliable pick, given that his defensive skill set will be a perfect fit in the NHL.
