Steve Mason is a Canadian goalie on the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Mason was drafted by Columbus in 2006, while playing in the OHL. Mason was called up a few times to Columbus but never made an NHL start until 2008. Meanwhile, he was putting up solid numbers in the OHL from 2006-2008, and ended up winning the starting job away from Pascal Leclaire. Mason was spectacular in his rookie season, winning 33 of 61 starts and posting a 2.29 GAA. He helped the Blue Jackets reach the playoffs for the first time in franchise history, and earned himself a nomination for the Vezina Trophy as one of the league’s top goalies, as well as a nomination for the Calder Trophy, awarded to the Rookie of the Year.
