Doug Weight is an American center on the New York Islanders.

Weight, once one of the most highly regarded young prospects in the NHL, has made a successful career with 6 different NHL clubs, since being drafted by the Rangers in 1990. He played two seasons with the Rangers, scoring 70 points in 118 games before being traded to Edmonton in 1993. With Edmonton, he had some of his most productive seasons, finishing the ’95-96 season with a career high 79 assists and 104 points. He was named team captain in 1999, and became known as one of the top playmakers in the league with the Oilers. However, due to the Oilers’ short financial capacities, he was traded to St. Louis in 2001. He played 6 seasons in St. Louis, where he struggled to perform on a poor franchise. In 2006, he was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes for their Stanley Cup run. He played a major role in helping the Canes reach the Finals, but was injured in Game 5 and could not finish the series. However, Carolina won the Cup anyway. He returned to St. Louis after the playoffs, and played there until being traded to Anaheim in 2007. He signed with New York in the 2008 offseason. Weigh has played in 4 All-Star Games over his career, and has achieved many notable NHL milestones, including 1000 games played, 700 assists and 1000 points. He is also very close to reaching 1000 penalty minutes.
