Jason Smith is a Canadian defenseman on the Ottawa Senators.
Smith was drafted in 1992 by the New Jersey Devils, and played parts of three seasons with the Devils after his debut in 1993. In 1997, he was dealt to Toronto where he played until 1999. In 1999, he was traded to Edmonton where he was named team captain. He was captain from 2001 until 2007, and led the Oilers to the Cup Finals in 2006, where they lost in 7 games to the Carolina Hurricanes.
Smith was traded to the Flyers in the offseason before 2007, and was named captain in October. Smith has played 945 career games and has 168 points and 1052 penalty minutes. He signed with Ottawa in the 2008 offseason. In 2008-09, Smith has had a very unproductive season, with a single point in 63 games thus far.
