Sean Avery is a Canadian winger on the New York Rangers.
Avery was undrafted, but broke into the league with Detroit in 1999. He played only 36 games in his rookie season, and was not eligible to have his name placed on the Stanley Cup Detroit won that season. He was traded to Los Angeles in 2003, where he spent the next four years, developing into one of the league’s most effective agitators. Avery was traded to New York in 2007, where he developed into a more complete player, scoring 15 goals and 33 points in only 57 games, before injuries cut his season short. Avery signed with Dallas in the 2008 offseason. Avery played only 23 games with the Stars, causing a large amount of controversy, including a feud with Dion Phaneuf after remarks Avery made regarding Phaneuf’s girlfriend, who was formerly going out with Avery. He scored only 10 points with the Stars, and was traded back to New York, which seems to be one of the only environments Avery is at home in. He helped the Rangers reach the playoffs, scoring 12 points in only 18 games.
