Alexander Semin is a Russian right winger on the Washington Capitals.
Semin was drafted by Washington in the first round of the 2002 draft. He played another season in Russia before making his NHL debut in 2003-04. He split time with Portland of the AHL and the Capitals, finishing with 22 points over 52 NHL games. The next year, during the NHL lockout, Semin returned to his former team in the Russian leagues, Lada Togliatti. Semin was making double the money that he would have made playing for the Capitals, and due to a controversy surrounding his military duty obligations to Russia, he remained in Russia through the 2005-06 season. In 2006-07, he returned to Washington and had a breakout season, finishing with 38 goals and 73 points.
Semin played for Russia at the 2005, 2006 and 2008 World Championships.
