A “defensive back” in American Football pertains to the team’s defensive players who take positions around the back from the line of scrimmage. A “defensive back” is different from a linebacker or a defensive line player, as these players are positioned directly on or close to the scrimmage line. General classifications of a “defensive back” player are the following:
