Harrison Butker is an active American professional football placekicker for the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League (NFL).
Player Profile, High School, and College Career
Harrison Butker was born on July 14, 1995, in Decatur, Georgia, United States. The kicker stands 193 cm tall, and plays at a listed weight of 93 kg.He attended Westminster Schools in Atlanta, Georgia, where he excelled as a multi-sport athlete, lettering in football, basketball, and soccer. He helped lead the Westminster soccer team to three state championships and was deeply involved in the school's band, playing the tuba.
Committing to Georgia Tech, Butker played for the Yellow Jackets from 2013 to 2016. He finished his collegiate career as the school's all-time leading scorer, converting numerous clutch kicks and displaying the consistency that would soon translate to the professional ranks.
Professional Career
Butker was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the seventh round (233rd overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.Despite a strong preseason, the Panthers waived Butker prior to the regular season, opting to retain veteran Graham Gano, and signed Butker to their practice squad. In September 2017, the Kansas City Chiefs signed him off the Panthers' practice squad following an injury to their starting kicker.
Butker capitalized on the opportunity, putting together a spectacular rookie campaign where he set an NFL record for the most field goals made by a rookie (38) and earned a spot on the PFWA All-Rookie Team.
Since then, Butker has been a foundational pillar of the Chiefs' sustained success under head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
He led the NFL in scoring in 2019 and consistently ranks among the most accurate kickers in league history, boasting a career field goal percentage above 88%. He famously connected on a 62-yard field goal and holds the NFL record for the longest made field goal in a Super Bowl (57 yards in Super Bowl LVIII). His clutch performances have helped the Chiefs capture three world championships in Super Bowl LIV, LVII, and LVIII.
In August 2024, Butker negotiated his own historic four-year, $25.6 million contract extension, firmly securing his status as one of the highest-paid specialists in the game. During the 2025 season, despite Kansas City experiencing an uneven campaign, Butker remained a model of consistency, converting 33 of 38 field goals and accounting for all of the Chiefs' scoring in several matchups.
